Barcasia Officially known as the Kingdom of Barcasia is a sovereign state located in Southern-Seres and is bordered by Rexia, Verdania and Sertoria to the east, Prutenia to the north, and Mahaya to the south. The country has a cold semi-arid climate with most of the population living in the fertile southern coast and the Great Plains dominating the geography of the north.
Barcasia is a constitutional monarchy with representative democracy, however, the king holds wide executive and legislative powers. The current monarch is King Silvanus II, who has reigned for 23 years. While Silvanus II is the ruling monarch, his deteriorating health has caused him to take a step back from many of his duties and delegate them to his son, First Deputy Prime Minister and Crown Prince Fabius Tigurus. Fabius has been called the power behind the throne and has enacted a number of reforms to Wellestria in an attempt to steer the country away from growing internal powers of Seresian ultra-nationalism, Kushari separatism, and unionism.
Barcasia is one of the Successor States of Lucius's Seresian Republic and therefor was formed during the Wars of the Successors. During the wars, Barcas was said to be the strongest of the states and this power constantly forced the other states to form temporary alliances to combat Barca's power. The wars ended when Ashkal intervened and forced the Seresian states to sign a peace agreement in 1481. In 1546, Wellestria in a coalition with other successor states wage the Half-Century War against the Tovakizaric Empire. After the war ended, Barcasia helped establish the pro-Ashkali government of the Republic of Tovakizar leading to a decade of prosperity for the nation. However, with the fall of the Tovakizaric republic during the Celestial Revolution and the rise of the Celestial Hegemony, the Barcasian economy imploded. Barcasia became one of the main factions in the Coalition Wars on side of the Coalition, however this near constant state of warring resulted in the Barcasian Civil War in 1223 between the government and their allies the Seresian ultra-nationalist group, the Resurrectionists, against the Unionists and Kushari separatists. The civil war ended in 1226 with a peace treaty between all factions except the Kushari Worker's Party who refuse to acknowledge the peace until Wellestrian soldiers end their occupation of Kushari homelands.
Today, Barcasia is still a leader of the Seresian world however that mantle is being challenged by threats both internal and external. Increasing unpopularity of Ashkal-led life has lead to a rise of alternate, radical ideologies such as Asharanism, Resurrectionism, and unionism; all of which oppose the traditionalist government. As well, the borderline superpower status of the Celestial Hegemony has been alarming for many within the nation however the largest existential threat to the royal government is the Kushari Worker's Party. With the Cedronian Civil War going on it's eight-year, the Kushari minority in the nation has declared independence and even a desire to unite all Kushari lands under one banner; a plan that would threaten Barcasia due to the large Kushari population located in the western coast of the country. Barcasia has poured large amounts of resources and manpower into suppressing the almost constant riots and uprisings in the Kushari regions and even invaded parts of Cedronian Kushari to prevent the two forces from uniting.
