After the death of his father, the family flees to the island nation of Ashkal. At the age of 22, Marceth is a blacksmith for the school he graduated from, the Seresian Academy of Ashkal, a makeshift school for Seresian refugees. Life as a blacksmith is simple, Marceth spends most of his days making weapons for the students to practice with, and any free time he may have with his friends.

However, one day Marceth and his little sister are caught in one of the frequent bombings from the Wolves Claw, a Seresian terrorist group dedicated to forcing the withdrawal of Ashkali forces from the country of Cedronia.

Driven by vengeance against those who hold the Wolves leash and a desire to end the Cedronian Civil War so his people can return home, Marceth leaves his old life behind and takes a boat to Cedronia to become a mercenary in an effort to topple the Nationalist government. He is taught by Corva.

Marceth's father died during the Cedronian Revolution; Secundar died six months later at age one. The family then fled to Ashkal, where they lived in the port-city of Tishkal.

When does was three years old, his father left to Cedronia "in the name of love" forcing his mom to raise him on his own. Because of this, Dustan has developed a grudge against nobility, believing them to all be people who simply play with people's lives for their own entertainment and then leave when they grow bored. Dustan rarely got along with his mother and left home at the age of 15 to join the Aeneadic Academy of Ashkal. There, he is taught by Dominus Gallio who helps him learn the ways of Aeneadic sword-fighting for both self-defense and as a form of self-expression. It is also here that Dustan meets and becomes friends with Caius, Marcus, Florian, and Dominik.
